Biden Shamelessly lies about new Texas Voting Laws, Voter ID

  • Biden says minorities can’t figure out how to get a valid photo ID with zero hard evidence to support it
  • There is a single study from a partisan left-wing radical that looks at results, but fails to identify which elections it compared
  • Study doesn’t even bother to attempt explaining why minorities can’t get voter ID, because no rational reason exists – its most likely left-wing disinformation is to blame, not voter ID laws

When politicians talk, most of the time voters know better than to believe their opinions as fact. But the media can sometimes fool people, by uncritically reporting what the authority figure says without giving necessary context. In many ways, that’s the most important function of the media: to provide necessary context to the many lies told by politicians like Joe Biden.

Biden loves lying about voting laws. He wants to allow as many illegal ballots as possible, and labels anything that tries to push voter integrity as racism. Having a driver’s license is supposedly difficult for minorities, a weird and unsupported opinion from the political left that goes unchallenged and unexplained. Biden makes these claims, and the media parrots them back uncritically, on the basis of one entirely flawed study that is biased and suspicious as to its methods and conclusions.

Major Violations:

  • Racialization of a Non-Racial Topic
  • Misrepresentation
  • Bad Sources

“Today, Texas legislators put forth a bill that joins Georgia and Florida in advancing a state law that attacks the sacred right to vote, ” Biden said in a statement to The Texas Tribune. “It’s part of an assault on democracy that we’ve seen far too often this year — and often disproportionately targeting Black and Brown Americans.”

This weird idea that minorities and especially blacks are somehow incapable of getting to vote on time, or getting a driver’s license, appears in left-wing talking points all the time but is never challenged. This statement makes no sense, and there is no evidence to support these claims.

Leftists always love pointing to a “study” that they’ve never “read” from a university most notable for churning out Communist Angela Davis and Mike Judge.

They rarely even link to the sole actual ‘study’ that justifies their ridiculous claims about the inability of minorities to decipher the mystery of the racist phrase “DMV.”

If they were to read the sole study, they’d also be pretty surprised to discover that it says, a little more than halfway through:

“…we readily admit that our analysis cannot definitively show a causal connection between voter ID laws and turnout…” page 24 [1]

Now, to be fair, most studies are careful in their claims. But their humility here is not matched by any left-wing humility in appropriating the most extreme interpretation possible from the so-called ‘study.’ It’s also suspicious that the specific campaigns and elections used as the dataset in the study are not disclosed.

One glaring omission from the study seems to be his ignorance of provisional ballots. When a voter is otherwise disqualified from voting, most often in most states, they are allowed to cast a ‘provisional’ ballot which allows them to vote a ballot, but separates that ballot into a separate stack to be counted if the vote total is close enough to matter. Meaning that, if there are 10 provisional ballots, and the two people on the ballot are separated by 100 votes, there’s no need to count the provisional ballots. If the two candidates are separated by 5 ballots, then they are assessed for their legal validity and then, if valid, it’s counted. [2][3][4]

So, assuming his two references to provisional ballots means he actually understands the concept and how they work within the voting system, his argument is that photo ID dissuades minorities from even bothering to show up. No mind that they can and do vote, even without ID, it’s the argument that this legal requirement affects people’s perception about whether they will be able to vote, and so should be stopped. [5]

This is the most extreme and outlandish of positions: regardless of the actual text of the law, we have to worry about how this might affect left-wing voters in their results because of how they misunderstand the legal situation.

Which brings up an interesting question: are the Democrats and social scientists CREATING the problem they claim to be FINDING? By hyping how voter ID laws stop minorities from voting, are they causing minority voters to think that their votes don’t count, even though they do?

It seems a lot more likely that the left-wing misinformation machine is to blame than the actual text of the law and the application of voting systems, which always affords questionable voters without ID a way to vote.

Once again Democrats cause all the problems that Democrats loudly complain about.

You can tell by reading this study that it’s not very robust, it’s a bad source. It’s also done by a shameless left-wing academic hack, Zoltan Hajnal. [6][7] A quick perusal of his CV [8] yields this little gem: a 2016 op-ed in CNN [9] where Hajnal argues that everyone should vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton because their pocketbooks will prosper as a result. Imagine if he had the audacity to test that thesis and how it worked out for those populations!

But the big point is that this is not an objective academic. This is not someone who is engaging in social science to discover the best policy. This is a shameless partisan who is writing sophistry and calling it science.

This one study doesn’t say what Biden wants it to say. And the dataset is not fully disclosed, and the campaigns compared are not disclosed. The eventual cherry-picked evidence then doesn’t even say what they want it to say: it merely says that minorities might be confused about the impact of voter ID laws, likely that confusion comes from the bad faith arguments from left-wing extremists and their media allies.

This whole topic is a left-wing lie built upon other left-wing lies. It’s no surprise that Biden is parroting these things uncritically.
